Homages Pour In for Rob and Michele Reiner as Medical Examiner's Findings Are Sealed.
Well beyond 14 days following the shocking loss of renowned filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer Michele Reiner, peers and loved ones persist in remembering the duo.
‘Life is Pain Without You’: Cary Elwes Pays Tribute to His Director
Writing on social media, actor Cary Elwes, who starred in Reiner's iconic movie *The Princess Bride*, explained he only now felt able to share openly about his personal sorrow.
"Adequate time has gone by that I can at last articulate my loss into words," shared Elwes, adding that his introductory moment with Reiner made him fall in love. "As we began spending more time together I realized this was someone I longed to have in my life."
The actor uploaded behind-the-scenes footage from the production, remarking that he doesn't recollect "one day without laughter".
"The movie is about devotion, fidelity and selflessness. Principles that Rob cherished deeply. Which is among the many reasons he was the perfect person to helm it," Elwes wrote.
He went on to praise Michele Reiner, saying: "To say that they were a great team would be an oversimplification. My heart still pangs every time I remember you." He concluded with a quote from *The Princess Bride*: "Indeed, death cannot stop true love but living is anguish without you."
Martin Scorsese Remembers a Colleague and Comrade
In a separate essay, legendary director Martin Scorsese paid homage to Reiner, whom he initially encountered in the 1970s.
"Immediately, I loved spending time with Rob. We had a natural affinity for each other. He was hilarious and sometimes sharply witty, but he was never the kind of guy who would command the room," Scorsese said.
Scorsese highlighted Reiner's cameo appearance in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, portraying the father of the protagonist.
"His improvisation skills with the best. He was a master at comedy, he worked beautifully with the cast, and he comprehended the emotional dilemma of his character," Scorsese noted.
Legal Developments: Autopsy Reports Withheld
This week, a Los Angeles court official agreed to prevent the release of the Reiners' medical examiner's reports, following a petition from the Los Angeles Police Department.
A court order placed a security hold on the cases to restrict the public release of "related notes, notes, reports or photos" pertaining to the probe.
The coroner's office had earlier stated their deaths were the result of homicide, with a public database listing the cause as "injuries from a sharp object".
Response and Criticism
In the wake of the killings, public personalities shared varying comments.
Ex-President Donald Trump posted on the matter, making provocative statements that were widely condemned by many individuals.
Podcaster Joe Rogan contributed his criticism to the detractors last week. Talking on his program, Rogan labeled the remarks as "disturbing" and suggested they revealed a troubling lack of empathy.
Rogan concluded by remarking that an adviser could have intervened when the decision to comment on the tragedy was made.
